About Hypoallergenic

Hypoallergenic means one protein and nothing added. It does not mean no dog can react, because any protein can be the one a particular dog reacts to.

It is for a dog with itchy skin, loose stools or ear trouble that keeps coming back, and for anyone working through an elimination diet with a vet. The single ingredient is what makes that workable: if a chew contains one thing, you know exactly what to withdraw.

Start with a protein the dog has never eaten. In practice that usually means ostrich, goat, rabbit or venison rather than beef or chicken.

One thing to watch. The treat boxes in this collection contain more than one protein by design, so check the contents before giving one to a dog mid-elimination.

Smell and mess vary across this collection more than any other, because it spans dried skin at one end and organ meat at the other. The product pages say which is which.
